Sunan Abi Dawud, 359

Rapporté par Umm Salamah (la mère des croyants) رضي الله عنها : Bakkar ibn Yahya a dit que sa grand-mère lui a raconté : Je suis entrée chez Umm Salamah. Une femme de Quraysh lui a demandé si on pouvait prier avec les vêtements qu’une femme porte pendant ses règles. Umm Salamah a répondu : « Nous avions nos règles du vivant du Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Chacune de nous s’abstenait de prier pendant ses règles. Quand elle était purifiée, elle regardait le vêtement qu’elle portait pendant ses règles. S’il y avait du sang, nous le lavions et nous priions avec ; s’il n’y avait rien, nous le laissions et cela ne nous empêchait pas de prier avec le même vêtement. » Quant à la femme qui avait les cheveux tressés – parfois chacune de nous avait les cheveux tressés – quand elle faisait ses grandes ablutions, elle ne défaisait pas ses tresses. Elle versait plutôt trois poignées d’eau sur sa tête. Quand elle sentait que l’eau avait atteint la racine de ses cheveux, elle les frottait, puis elle versait de l’eau sur tout son corps

Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Mu'minin: Bakkar ibn Yahya said that his grandmother narrated to him: I entered upon Umm Salamah. A woman from the Quraysh asked her about praying with the clothes which a woman wore while she menstruated. Umm Salamah said: We would menstruate in the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Then each one of us refrained (from prayer) during menstrual period. When she was purified, she would look at the clothe in which she menstruated. If it were smeared with blood, we would wash it and pray with it; if there were nothing in it, we would leave it and that would not prevent us from praying with it (the same clothe). As regards the woman who had plaited hair - sometimes each of us had plaited hair - when she washed, she would not undo the hair. She would instead pour three handfuls of water upon her head. When she felt moisture in the roots of her hair, she would rub them. Then she would pour water upon her whole body
