Sahih Muslim, 1899

Umar b. Khattab said:I heard Hisham b. Hakim b. Hizam reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from that in which I used to recite it, and in which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had taught me to recite it. I was about to dispute with him (on this style) but I delayed till he had finished that (the recitation). Then I caught hold of his cloak and brought him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I heard this man reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from the one in which you taught me to recite. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told (me) to leave him alone and asked him to recite. He then recited in the style in which I beard him recite it. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said: Thus was it sent down. He then told me to recite and I recited it, and he said: Thus was it sent down. The Qur'an was sent down in seven dialects. So recite what seems easy therefrom

Rapporté par Omar b. Khattab رضي الله عنه alors qu'il donnait un sermon : J’ai entendu Hisham b. Hakim b. Hizam réciter la sourate al-Furqan d’une manière différente de celle que j’avais apprise du Messager d’Allah ﷺ. J’ai failli le contredire, mais j’ai attendu qu’il termine. Ensuite, je l’ai attrapé par son manteau et je l’ai amené au Messager d’Allah ﷺ et j’ai dit : « Ô Messager d’Allah, j’ai entendu cet homme réciter la sourate al-Furqan d’une façon différente de celle que tu m’as enseignée. » Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ m’a dit de le laisser et lui a demandé de réciter. Il a récité comme je l’avais entendu. Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ a dit : « C’est ainsi qu’elle a été révélée. » Puis il m’a demandé de réciter et j’ai récité. Il a dit : « C’est ainsi qu’elle a été révélée. Le Coran a été révélé en sept dialectes. Récitez donc ce qui vous est facile. »
