Sahih al-Bukhari, 4642

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:'Uyaina bin Hisn bin Hudhaifa came and stayed with his nephew Al-Hurr bin Qais who was one of those whom `Umar used to keep near him, as the Qurra' (learned men knowing Qur'an by heart) were the people of `Umar's meetings and his advisors whether they were old or young. 'Uyaina said to his nephew, "O son of my brother! You have an approach to this chief, so get for me the permission to see him." Al-Hurr said, "I will get the permission for you to see him." So Al-Hurr asked the permission for 'Uyaina and `Umar admitted him. When 'Uyaina entered upon him, he said, "Beware! O the son of Al-Khattab! By Allah, you neither give us sufficient provision nor judge among us with justice." Thereupon `Umar became so furious that he intended to harm him, but Al-Hurr said, "O chief of the Believers! Allah said to His Prophet: "Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; and leave (don't punish) the foolish." (7.199) and this (i.e. 'Uyaina) is one of the foolish." By Allah, `Umar did not overlook that Verse when Al-Hurr recited it before him; he observed (the orders of) Allah's Book strictly

Rapporté par Ibn `Abbas : ‘Uyaina bin Hisn bin Hudhaifa est venu et a séjourné chez son neveu Al-Hurr bin Qais, qui faisait partie de ceux qu’`Umar gardait près de lui, car les Qurra’ (ceux qui connaissaient le Coran par cœur) étaient les conseillers d’`Umar, qu’ils soient jeunes ou vieux. ‘Uyaina a dit à son neveu : « Ô fils de mon frère ! Tu as accès à ce chef, alors demande-lui la permission pour que je le voie. » Al-Hurr a dit : « Je vais demander la permission pour toi. » Il l’a fait et `Umar a accepté de le recevoir. Quand ‘Uyaina est entré, il a dit : « Attention ! Ô fils d’Al-Khattab ! Par Allah, tu ne nous donnes pas assez de provisions et tu ne juges pas entre nous avec justice. » À ces mots, `Umar s’est tellement fâché qu’il a voulu lui faire du mal, mais Al-Hurr a dit : « Ô chef des croyants ! Allah a dit à Son Prophète : “Tiens-toi au pardon ; ordonne ce qui est convenable ; et éloigne-toi des ignorants.” (7.199) et lui (c’est-à-dire ‘Uyaina) fait partie des ignorants. » Par Allah, `Umar n’a pas oublié ce verset quand Al-Hurr le lui a rappelé ; il a suivi strictement le Livre d’Allah
