Al-Muwatta de Malik, 703

Malek a rapporté qu'il a entendu dire des ulémas en qui on a confiance: «on fit montrer à l'Envoyé d'Allah (salallahou alayhi wa salam) r (Sur lui la grâce et la paix d'Allah) les âges des hommes qui l'ont précédé de vie, ou ce que Allah a voulu lui montrer. Comme il trouva que les âges des hommes de sa communauté sont si courts à les comparer aux œuvres qu'ils ont à accomplir, tout comme ceux qui leur ont précédés, jouissant d'une longévité d'âge. Allah, lui accorda la nuit du Destin, qui est mieux que mille autres mois»

Ziyad related to me from Malik that he had heard a man he trusted of the people of knowledge say, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was shown the lifespans of the people (who had gone) before him, or what Allah willed of that, and it was as if the lives of the people of his community had become too short for them to be able to do as many good actions as others before them had been able to do with their long lives, so Allah gave him Laylat al- Qadr, which is better than a thousand months
