Sunan Ibn Majah, 4153

Rapporté par ‘Umar bin Khattab : Je suis entré chez le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) alors qu’il était assis sur un tapis en roseau. Je me suis assis et j’ai vu qu’il portait un pagne, et il n’y avait rien d’autre entre lui et le tapis que ce pagne, et le tapis avait laissé des marques sur son côté. J’ai vu une poignée d’orge, presque un sa’, et quelques feuilles d’acacia dans un coin de la pièce, ainsi qu’une peau suspendue. Mes yeux se sont remplis de larmes, et il a dit : “Pourquoi pleures-tu, ô fils de Khattab ?” J’ai répondu : “Ô Prophète d’Allah, pourquoi ne pleurerais-je pas ? Ce tapis a laissé des marques sur ton côté, et c’est tout ce que tu possèdes, je ne vois rien d’autre ici, alors que Chosroès et César vivent parmi les fruits et les rivières. Tu es le Prophète d’Allah et Son Élu, et c’est tout ce que tu possèdes.” Il a dit : “Ô fils de Khattab, cela ne te plaît-il pas de savoir que ces choses sont pour nous dans l’au-delà et pour eux dans ce monde ?” J’ai répondu : “Oui.”

‘Umar bin Khattab said:“I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he was (sitting) on a reed mat. I sat down and (saw that) he was wearing a waist wrap, and there was no other barrier between him and the mat but his waist wrap, and the reed mat had made marks on his side. And I saw a handful of barley, nearly a Sa’, and some acacia leaves, in a corner of the room, and a skin hanging up. My eyes flowed with tears, and he said: ‘Why are you weeping, O son of Khattab?’ I said: ‘O Prophet of Allah, why should I not weep? This mat has made marks on your side, and this is all you have accumulated, I cannot see anything other than what I see (here), while Chosroes and Caesar live among fruits and rivers. You are the Prophet of Allah and His Chosen One, and this is what you have accumulated.’ He said: ‘O son of Khattab, does it not please you (to know) that (these things) are for us in the Hereafter and for them in this world?’ He said: ‘Yes.’”
