Sahih al-Bukhari, 7192

Rapporté par Abu Laila bin `Abdullah bin `Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl : Sahl bin Abi Hathma et quelques notables de sa tribu ont raconté que `Abdullah bin Sahl et Muhaiyisa sont partis à Khaybar car ils vivaient dans la pauvreté et des conditions difficiles. Ensuite, Muhaiyisa a appris que `Abdullah avait été tué et jeté dans un puits ou une source. Muhaiyisa est allé voir les Juifs et leur a dit : « Par Allah, vous avez tué mon compagnon. » Les Juifs ont répondu : « Par Allah, nous ne l’avons pas tué. » Muhaiyisa est alors retourné auprès des siens et leur a raconté ce qui s’était passé. Lui, son frère aîné Huwaiyisa et `Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl sont allés voir le Prophète (ﷺ). Celui qui était à Khaybar a voulu parler, mais le Prophète (ﷺ) a dit à Muhaiyisa : « L’aîné ! L’aîné ! » c’est-à-dire : « Que le plus âgé d’entre vous parle. » Huwaiyisa a donc parlé en premier, puis Muhaiyisa. Le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a dit : « Les Juifs doivent soit payer le prix du sang pour votre compagnon décédé, soit se préparer à la guerre. » Après cela, le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a écrit une lettre aux Juifs à ce sujet, et ils ont répondu qu’ils ne l’avaient pas tué. Ensuite, le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a dit à Huwaiyisa, Muhaiyisa et `Abdur-Rahman : « Pouvez-vous prêter serment pour avoir droit au prix du sang ? » Ils ont répondu : « Non. » Il leur a alors dit : « Voulez-vous que nous demandions aux Juifs de jurer devant vous ? » Ils ont répondu : « Mais les Juifs ne sont pas musulmans. » Alors le Prophète d’Allah leur a donné cent chamelles comme prix du sang, de sa propre part. Sahl a ajouté : Quand ces chamelles sont entrées dans la maison, l’une d’elles m’a donné un coup de patte

Narrated Abu Laila bin `Abdullah bin `Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl:Sahl bin Abi Hathma and some great men of his tribe said, `Abdullah bin 'Sahl and Muhaiyisa went out to Khaibar as they were struck with poverty and difficult living conditions. Then Muhaiyisa was informed that `Abdullah had been killed and thrown in a pit or a spring. Muhaiyisa went to the Jews and said, "By Allah, you have killed my companion." The Jews said, "By Allah, we have not killed him." Muhaiyisa then came back to his people and told them the story. He, his elder brother Huwaiyisa and `Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl came (to the Prophet) and he who had been at Khaibar, proceeded to speak, but the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Muhaiyisa, "The eldest! The eldest!" meaning, "Let the eldest of you speak." So Huwaiyisa spoke first and then Muhaiyisa. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The Jews should either pay the blood money of your (deceased) companion or be ready for war." After that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) wrote a letter to the Jews in that respect, and they wrote that they had not killed him. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to Huwaiyisa, Muhaiyisa and `Abdur-Rahman, "Can you take an oath by which you will be entitled to take the blood money?" They said, "No." He said (to them), "Shall we ask the Jews to take an oath before you?" They replied, "But the Jews are not Muslims." So Allah's Apostle gave them one-hundred she-camels as blood money from himself. Sahl added: When those she-camels were made to enter the house, one of them kicked me with its leg
