Sahih al-Bukhari, 6922

Rapporté par `Ikrima : Des Zanadiqa (athées) ont été amenés à `Ali et il les a brûlés. Cette nouvelle est parvenue à Ibn `Abbas qui a dit : « Si j’avais été à sa place, je ne les aurais pas brûlés, car le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) l’a interdit en disant : ‘Ne punissez personne avec le châtiment d’Allah (le feu).’ Je les aurais tués selon la parole du Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) : ‘Celui qui change de religion islamique, tuez-le.’ »

Narrated `Ikrima:Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to `Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn `Abbas who said, "If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him
