Rapporté par `Abdullah bin `Umar : Du vivant du Messager d'Allah (ﷺ), la mosquée était construite en briques de terre, son toit en feuilles de palmier et ses piliers en troncs de palmier. Abu Bakr n'y a rien changé. `Umar l'a agrandie en gardant le même style qu'à l'époque du Messager d'Allah (ﷺ), utilisant des briques de terre, des feuilles de palmier et remplaçant les piliers par du bois. `Uthman l'a beaucoup agrandie, a construit ses murs en pierres taillées et en chaux, a fait ses piliers en pierres taillées et son toit en bois de teck

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:In the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) the mosque was built of adobes, its roof of the leaves of date-palms and its pillars of the stems of date-palms. Abu Bakr did not alter it. `Umar expanded it on the same pattern as it was in the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) by using adobes, leaves of date-palms and changing the pillars into wooden ones. `Uthman changed it by expanding it to a great extent and built its walls with engraved stones and lime and made its pillars of engraved stones and its roof of teak wood
