Sahih al-Bukhari, 2301

Rapporté par `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf : J'ai fait rédiger un accord entre moi et Umaiya bin Khalaf selon lequel Umaiya s'occuperait de mes biens (ou de ma famille) à La Mecque et moi des siens à Médine. Quand j'ai mentionné le nom 'Ar-Rahman' dans les documents, Umaiya a dit : « Je ne connais pas 'Ar-Rahman'. Écris-moi ton nom, celui que tu utilisais à l'époque préislamique. » J'ai donc écrit mon nom '`Abdu `Amr'. Le jour (de la bataille) de Badr, quand tout le monde s'est endormi, je suis monté sur la colline pour le protéger. Bilal l'a vu (c'est-à-dire Umaiya) et est allé vers un groupe d'Ansar en disant : « Voici Umaiya bin Khalaf ! Malheur à moi s'il s'échappe ! » Un groupe d'Ansar est donc parti avec Bilal pour nous suivre (`Abdur-Rahman et Umaiya). Craignant qu'ils ne nous attrapent, j'ai laissé le fils d'Umaiya pour les occuper, mais les Ansar ont tué le fils et ont continué à nous poursuivre. Umaiya était un homme corpulent, et quand ils se sont approchés de nous, je lui ai dit de s'agenouiller, il s'est agenouillé, et je me suis allongé sur lui pour le protéger, mais les Ansar l'ont tué en passant leurs épées sous moi, et l'un d'eux m'a blessé au pied avec son épée. (Le sous-narrateur a dit : « `Abdur-Rahman nous montrait la trace de la blessure à l'arrière de son pied. »)

Narrated `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf:I got an agreement written between me and Umaiya bin Khalaf that Umaiya would look after my property (or family) in Mecca and I would look after his in Medina. When I mentioned the word 'Ar-Rahman' in the documents, Umaiya said, "I do not know 'Ar-Rahman.' Write down to me your name, (with which you called yourself) in the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance." So, I wrote my name ' `Abdu `Amr'. On the day (of the battle) of Badr, when all the people went to sleep, I went up the hill to protect him. Bilal(1) saw him (i.e. Umaiya) and went to a gathering of Ansar and said, "(Here is) Umaiya bin Khalaf! Woe to me if he escapes!" So, a group of Ansar went out with Bilal to follow us (`Abdur-Rahman and Umaiya). Being afraid that they would catch us, I left Umaiya's son for them to keep them busy but the Ansar killed the son and insisted on following us. Umaiya was a fat man, and when they approached us, I told him to kneel down, and he knelt, and I laid myself on him to protect him, but the Ansar killed him by passing their swords underneath me, and one of them injured my foot with his sword.
