Sahih al-Bukhari, 1313

Rapporté par `Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila : Sahl bin Hunaif et Qais bin Sa`d étaient assis dans la ville d’Al-Qadisiya. Un cortège funéraire est passé devant eux et ils se sont levés. On leur a dit que c’était le cortège d’un habitant du pays, c’est-à-dire d’un non-croyant sous la protection des musulmans. Ils ont dit : « Un cortège funéraire est passé devant le Prophète (ﷺ) et il s’est levé. Quand on lui a dit que c’était le cercueil d’un Juif, il a dit : “N’est-ce pas un être vivant (une âme) ?” »

Narrated `Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila:Sahl bin Hunaif and Qais bin Sa`d were sitting in the city of Al-Qadisiya. A funeral procession passed in front of them and they stood up. They were told that funeral procession was of one of the inhabitants of the land i.e. of a non-believer, under the protection of Muslims. They said, "A funeral procession passed in front of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he stood up. When he was told that it was the coffin of a Jew, he said, "Is it not a living being (soul)?
