Sahih al-Bukhari, 1304

Rapporté par `Abdullah bin `Umar : Sa`d bin ‘Ubada est tombé malade et le Prophète (ﷺ), accompagné de `Abdur Rahman bin `Auf, Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas et `Abdullah bin Mas`ud, lui a rendu visite pour prendre de ses nouvelles. En arrivant, il l’a trouvé entouré de sa famille et a demandé : « Est-il mort ? » Ils ont répondu : « Non, ô Messager d’Allah. » Le Prophète (ﷺ) a pleuré, et quand les gens ont vu les larmes du Messager d’Allah (ﷺ), ils ont tous pleuré. Il a dit : « Écoutez bien : Allah ne punit pas pour les larmes versées ni pour la tristesse du cœur, mais Il punit ou fait miséricorde à cause de cela. » Il a montré sa langue et ajouté : « Le défunt est puni à cause des lamentations de ses proches sur lui. » `Umar avait l’habitude de frapper avec un bâton, de jeter des pierres et de mettre de la poussière sur le visage de ceux qui se lamentaient sur les morts

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:Sa`d bin 'Ubada became sick and the Prophet (ﷺ) along with `Abdur Rahman bin `Auf, Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas and `Abdullah bin Mas`ud visited him to inquire about his health. When he came to him, he found him surrounded by his household and he asked, "Has he died?" They said, "No, O Allah's Apostle." The Prophet (ﷺ) wept and when the people saw the weeping of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) they all wept. He said, "Will you listen? Allah does not punish for shedding tears, nor for the grief of the heart but he punishes or bestows His Mercy because of this." He pointed to his tongue and added, "The deceased is punished for the wailing of his relatives over him." `Umar used to beat with a stick and throw stones and put dust over the faces (of those who used to wail over the dead)
