Sahih al-Bukhari, 1077

Rapporté par Rabi`a : `Umar bin Al-Khattab a récité la sourate An-Nahl un vendredi sur le minbar et, arrivé au verset de la prosternation, il est descendu du minbar et s’est prosterné, et les gens aussi. Le vendredi suivant, `Umar bin Al-Khattab a récité la même sourate et, arrivé au verset de la prosternation, il a dit : « Ô gens ! Quand nous récitons les versets de prosternation (pendant le sermon), celui qui se prosterne fait bien, mais il n’y a pas de péché pour celui qui ne se prosterne pas. » Et ce jour-là, `Umar ne s’est pas prosterné. Ibn `Umar a ajouté : « Allah n’a pas rendu la prosternation de récitation obligatoire, mais si nous voulons, nous pouvons la faire. »

Narrated Rabi`a:`Umar bin Al-Khattab recited Surat-an-Nahl on a Friday on the pulpit and when he reached the verse of Sajda he got down from the pulpit and prostrated and the people also prostrated. The next Friday `Umar bin Al-Khattab recited the same Sura and when he reached the verse of Sajda he said, "O people! When we recite the verses of Sajda (during the sermon) whoever prostrates does the right thing, yet it is no sin for the one who does not prostrate." And `Umar did not prostrate (that day).
