Sunan Abi Dawud, 931

Rapporté par Mu’awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami : Lorsque je suis venu voir le Messager d’Allah ﷺ, j’ai appris beaucoup de choses sur l’islam. Parmi ce qu’on m’a enseigné, il y avait ceci : quand tu éternues, loue Allah (c’est-à-dire dis : « Louange à Allah »), et quand quelqu’un éternue et loue Allah, réponds-lui : « Qu’Allah te fasse miséricorde. » Un jour, alors que j’étais debout avec le Messager d’Allah ﷺ pendant la prière, un homme éternua et loua Allah. J’ai donc dit à voix haute : « Qu’Allah te fasse miséricorde. » Les gens m’ont lancé des regards désapprobateurs, au point que je m’en suis senti mal. J’ai alors dit : « Pourquoi me regardez-vous ainsi ? » Ensuite, ils ont glorifié Allah. Quand le Prophète ﷺ a terminé sa prière, il a demandé : « Qui a parlé ? » On lui a répondu : « C’est ce Bédouin. » Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ m’a appelé et m’a dit : « La prière est faite pour la récitation du Coran et pour l’évocation d’Allah. Lorsque tu es en prière, c’est cela que tu dois faire. » Je n’ai jamais vu un enseignant plus bienveillant que le Messager d’Allah ﷺ

Mu’awiyah b. al-Hakam al-Sulami said ; when I came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) I learnt many things about islam. One of the things that I was taught was that it was that it was pointed out me. When you sneeze, praise Allah (I,e, say “praise be to Allah”); and when someone sneezes and praises Allah, say “ May Allah have mercy on you. Meanwhile I was standing along with the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) during prayer, all of a sudden a man sneezed, and he praised Allah. So I said, “may Allah have mercy on you”, in a loud voice. The people gave me disapproving looks so much so that I took ill of it. So I said :what do you mean by looking at me with furtive glances. Then they glorified Allah. When the prophet (ﷺ) finished his prayer, he asked; who was the speaker? The Prophet told him; this Bedouin. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called me and said to me: Prayer is meant for the recitation of the Quran, and making mention of Allah. When you are in it (prayer), this should be your work therein. I never saw an instructor more lenient than the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
