Sunan Abi Dawud, 2650

Rapporté par ‘Ali رضي الله عنه : Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ m’a envoyé avec Al Zubair et Al Miqdad en disant : « Allez jusqu’à la plaine de Khakh, car il y a là-bas une femme voyageant à dos de chameau qui porte une lettre que vous devez récupérer. » Nous sommes partis en courant l’un contre l’autre sur nos chevaux jusqu’à la plaine, et quand nous avons trouvé la femme, nous lui avons dit : « Sors la lettre. » Elle a dit : « Je n’ai pas de lettre. » J’ai dit : « Tu dois sortir la lettre, sinon nous t’enlèverons tes vêtements. » Elle l’a alors sortie de ses tresses et nous l’avons apportée au Prophète ﷺ. Elle était adressée de Hatib ibn Abi Balta’ah à certains polythéistes de La Mecque, leur donnant des informations sur le Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Il a demandé : « Qu’est-ce que c’est, Hatib ? » Il a répondu : « Ô Messager d’Allah ﷺ, ne sois pas dur avec moi. J’ai été allié des Quraysh sans en faire partie, alors que les Quraysh (les émigrés) ont des liens familiaux qui protègent leurs familles à La Mecque. Comme je n’avais pas cet avantage, j’ai voulu leur rendre service pour qu’ils protègent mes proches. Par Allah, je ne suis pas coupable de mécréance ni d’apostasie. » Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ a dit : « Il a dit la vérité. » ‘Umar a dit : « Laisse-moi couper la tête de cet hypocrite. » Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ a dit : « Il a assisté à Badr, et sais-tu, peut-être qu’Allah a regardé avec miséricorde ceux qui étaient à Badr et a dit : “Faites ce que vous voulez, Je vous ai pardonné.” »

‘Ali said “The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) sent me Al Zubair and Al Miqdad and said “Go till you come to the meadow of Khakh for there Is a woman there travelling on a Camel who has a letter which you must take from her. We went off racing one another on our horses till we came to the meadow and when we found the woman, we aid “Bring out the letter. She said “I have no letter”. I said “You must bring out the letter else we strip off your clothes”. She then brought it out from the tresses and we took it to the Prophet(ﷺ). It was addressed from Hatib bin Abi Balta’ah to some of the polytheists(in Makkah) giving them some information about the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ). He asked “What is this, Hatib? He replied, Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) do not be hasty with me. I have been a man attached as an ally to the Quraish and am not one of them while those of the Quraish (i.e. the emigrants) have relationship with them by which they guarded their family in Makkah. As I did not have that advantage I wanted to give them some help for which they might guard my relations. I swear by Allaah I am not guilty of unbelief or apostasy (from my religion). The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) said “he has told you the truth. ‘Umar said “Let me cut off this hypocrite’s head. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) said “He was present at Badr and what do you know, perhaps Allaah might look with pity on those who were present at Badr? And said “Do what you wish, I have forgiven you.”
