Musa as a Messenger

The Quran states that Allah sent Musa with signs to Pharaoh and his establishment.1,2 Musa declared to Pharaoh, "O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds."3 The Quran recounts that Allah spoke to Musa with direct speech.4,5,6

Musa and Pharaoh

Pharaoh expressed fear that Musa would change their religion or cause corruption in the land, and desired to kill him.7 Pharaoh accused Musa of being the leader who taught magic to the magicians, threatening to cut off their hands and feet and crucify them.8 Musa warned the magicians not to invent a lie against Allah, or He would exterminate them with punishment.9

The Day of Ashura

In a hadith reported by al-Bukhari, when the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Medina, he found the Jews fasting on 'Ashura', stating it was the day Allah saved Musa and drowned Pharaoh.10,11,12 In a hadith reported by Muslim, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We have a closer connection with Moses than you have," and commanded to observe fast on this day.13,14,15

Musa's Interactions and Status

In a hadith reported by Abu Huraira, Adam and Musa argued, with Musa blaming Adam for his mistake that expelled him from Paradise, and Adam overpowering Musa in argument by mentioning his fate was written before his creation.16,17 The Quran mentions that Musa said to his people, "Seek help through Allah and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah. He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous."18
