Role as a transmitter in the Muwatta
In the Muwatta, Malik is presented as a narrator who relates reports from earlier companions, such as Hisham ibn Urwa’s father about the Prophet’s striped garment.2 He also transmits a report from Ibn Shihab and Urwa ibn az‑Zubayr concerning Umar’s practice of gathering worshippers behind a single reciter.3
Selected hadith transmitted by Malik
One narration he relates records the Prophet saying, “Allah hears the one who praises Him,” while the congregation responded with a specific dhikr.4 Another report he transmits describes the Prophet praying the two rakas of Fajr very quickly, prompting Aisha to wonder whether he had recited the Qur’an.5 He also conveys a night‑time incident in which the Prophet rose, went out, and was followed by his slave‑girl Barira to al‑Baqi, as related by Aisha.6
