Participation in the campaign of Khaibar

Ali remained behind the Prophet because of eye trouble but said, “How can I stay behind the Messenger of Allah?” and joined him before the battle of Khaibar.1 The Prophet announced that the flag would be given to a man loved by Allah and His Apostle, identified Ali as that man, and cured his eyes by applying saliva.2,3

Narrated religious rulings

Ali narrated that the Prophet prohibited temporary marriage (mut‘ah) and the consumption of donkey meat during the campaign of Khaibar.4,5 Ali reported that the Prophet prohibited wearing Qassi, garments dyed with safflower, gold rings, and reciting the Qur’an while bowing.6

Prayer practices and teachings

Ali narrated the Prophet’s supplication after rising from bowing: “Sami Allahi liman hamidal…,” praising Allah who listens to those who praise Him.7 Ali reported that the Prophet taught it is Sunnah to eat something before leaving for Eid.8 Ali narrated that the Prophet said things passing in front of a praying person do not break the prayer.9 Ali described the Prophet’s hand movements and takbir during prayer, noting that the Prophet did not raise his hands while sitting.10
