Sunan an-Nasa'i, 3628

It was narrated from 'Amir bin Sa'd that his father said:"The Prophet used to visit him when he was in Makkah, and he did not want to die in the land from which he had emigrated. The Prophet said: 'May Allah have mercy on Sa'd bin 'Afra.' He had only one daughter, and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I bequeath all my wealth?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'Half?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'One-third?' He said: 'One-third, and one-third is a lot. For you to leave your heirs independent of means is better than if you were to leave them poor, holding out their hands to people

Rapporté par 'Amir bin Sa'd, d'après son père : Le Prophète avait l'habitude de lui rendre visite quand il était à La Mecque, et il ne voulait pas mourir dans la terre d'où il avait émigré. Le Prophète a dit : "Qu'Allah fasse miséricorde à Sa'd bin 'Afra." Il n'avait qu'une fille, et il a dit : "Ô Messager d'Allah, puis-je léguer tous mes biens ?" Il a dit : "Non." J'ai dit : "La moitié ?" Il a dit : "Non." J'ai dit : "Le tiers ?" Il a dit : "Un tiers, et un tiers c'est beaucoup. Il vaut mieux que tu laisses tes héritiers à l'abri du besoin que de les laisser pauvres à tendre la main aux gens
