Sahih Muslim, 818

Shaqiq reported:I was sitting in the company of Abdullah and Abu Musa when Abu Musa said: 0 'Abd al-Rahman (kunya of 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud), what would you like a man to do about the prayer if he experiences a seminal emission or has sexual intercourse but does not find water for a month? 'Abdullah said: He should not perform tayammum even if he does not find water for a month. 'Abdullah said: Then what about the verse in Sura Ma'ida:" If you do not find water, betake yourself to clean dust"? 'Abdullah said: If they were granted concession on the basis of this verse, there is a possibility that they would perform tayammum with dust on finding water very cold for themselves. Abu Musa said to Abdullah: You have not heard the words of 'Ammar: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me on an errand and I had a seminal emission, but could find no water, and rolled myself in dust just as a beast rolls itself. I came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then and made a mention of that to him and he (the Holy Prophet) said: It would have been enough for you to do thus. Then he struck the ground with his hands once and wiped his right hand with the help of his left hand and the exterior of his palms and his face. 'Abdullah said: Didn't you see that Umar was not fully satisfied with the words of 'Ammar only?

Rapporté par Shaqiq رضي الله عنه : J’étais assis avec Abdullah رضي الله عنه et Abu Musa رضي الله عنه. Abu Musa a demandé : « Ô Abd al-Rahman (kunya d’Abdullah ibn Mas’ud), que doit faire un homme pour la prière s’il a une souillure majeure ou a eu un rapport intime, mais ne trouve pas d’eau pendant un mois ? » Abdullah رضي الله عنه a répondu : « Il ne doit pas faire le tayammum, même s’il ne trouve pas d’eau pendant un mois. » Abu Musa رضي الله عنه a dit : « Et le verset dans la sourate Al-Ma’ida : “Si vous ne trouvez pas d’eau, recourez à la terre pure” ? » Abdullah رضي الله عنه a dit : « S’ils avaient eu cette facilité, ils auraient pu faire le tayammum même en trouvant l’eau trop froide. » Abu Musa رضي الله عنه a rappelé les paroles de ‘Ammar رضي الله عنه : « Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ m’a envoyé en mission, j’ai eu une souillure majeure et je n’ai pas trouvé d’eau, alors je me suis roulé dans la poussière comme une bête. J’en ai parlé au Messager d’Allah ﷺ et il a dit : “Il t’aurait suffi de faire ainsi.” Il a frappé le sol de ses mains, puis a essuyé sa main droite avec sa main gauche, le dessus de ses mains et son visage. » Abdullah رضي الله عنه a dit : « N’as-tu pas vu qu’Omar رضي الله عنه n’était pas entièrement convaincu par les paroles de ‘Ammar رضي الله عنه ? »
