Sahih Muslim, 4941

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (through another chain of transmitters) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:Whom do you consider to be a martyr among you? They (the Companions) said: Messenger, of Allah, one who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr. He said: Then (if this is the definition of a martyr) the martyrs of my Umma will be small in number. They asked: Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said: One who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr; one who dies in the way of Allah, is a martyr; one who dies of plague is a martyr; one who dies of cholera is a martyr. Ibn Miqsam said: I testify the truth of your father's statement (with regard to this tradition) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: One who is drowned is a martyr

Rapporté par Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه (par une autre chaîne de rapporteurs) : Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ a dit : « Qui considérez-vous comme martyr parmi vous ? » Les Compagnons ont répondu : « Ô Messager d’Allah, celui qui est tué dans le chemin d’Allah est un martyr. » Il a dit : « Si c’est cela la définition, alors les martyrs de ma communauté seront peu nombreux. » Ils ont demandé : « Qui sont-ils alors, ô Messager d’Allah ? » Il a répondu : « Celui qui est tué dans le chemin d’Allah est un martyr ; celui qui meurt dans le chemin d’Allah est un martyr ; celui qui meurt de la peste est un martyr ; celui qui meurt du choléra est un martyr. » Ibn Miqsam a dit : « J’atteste la véracité de ce que ton père a dit à ce sujet, que le Prophète ﷺ a dit : “Celui qui se noie est un martyr.” »
