Sahih Muslim, 4306

Abu Mas'ud al-Badri reported:I was beating my slave with a whip when I heard a voice behind me: Understand, Abu Masud; but I did not recognise the voice due to intense anger. He (Abu Mas'ud) reported: As he came near me (I found) that he was the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he was saying: Bear in mind, Abu Mas'ud; bear in mind. Abu Mas'ud. He (Aba Maslad) said: threw the whip from my hand. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Bear in mind, Abu Mas'ud; verily Allah has more dominance upon you than you have upon your slave. I (then) said: I would never beat my servant in future

Rapporté par Abu Mas‘ud al-Badri رضي الله عنه : Je frappais mon esclave avec un fouet quand j’ai entendu une voix derrière moi : « Comprends, Abu Mas‘ud ! » Mais je n’ai pas reconnu la voix à cause de ma colère. Quand il s’est approché de moi, j’ai vu que c’était le Messager d’Allah ﷺ qui disait : « Souviens-toi, Abu Mas‘ud ! Souviens-toi, Abu Mas‘ud ! » J’ai alors jeté le fouet de ma main. Le Prophète ﷺ a dit : « Souviens-toi, Abu Mas‘ud ! En vérité, Allah a plus de pouvoir sur toi que tu n’en as sur ton esclave. » J’ai alors dit : « Je ne frapperai plus jamais mon serviteur à l’avenir. »
