Sahih Muslim, 2403

Malik al-Ashja'i reported:We, nine, eight or seven men, were in the company of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: Why don't you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah? -while we had recently pledged allegiance. So we said: Messenger of Allah, we have already pledged allegiance to you. He again said: Why don't you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah? And we said: Messenger of Allah, we have already pledged allegiance to you. He again said: Why don't you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah? We stretched our hands and said: Messenger of Allah. we have already pledged allegiance to you. Now tell (on what things) should we pledge allegiance to you. He said I (You must pledge allegiance) that you would worship Allah only and would not associate with Him anything, (and observe) five prayers, and obey- (and he said onething in an undertone) -that you would not beg people of anything. (And as a consequence of that) I saw that some of these people did not ask anyone to pick up the whip for them if it fell down

Rapporté par Malik al-Ashja’i : Nous étions neuf, huit ou sept hommes en compagnie du Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Il a dit : « Pourquoi ne prêtez-vous pas allégeance au Messager d’Allah ? » alors que nous l’avions déjà fait récemment. Nous avons dit : « Messager d’Allah, nous t’avons déjà prêté allégeance. » Il a répété : « Pourquoi ne prêtez-vous pas allégeance au Messager d’Allah ? » et nous avons répondu de nouveau : « Messager d’Allah, nous t’avons déjà prêté allégeance. » Il l’a dit une troisième fois, alors nous avons tendu nos mains et dit : « Messager d’Allah, nous t’avons déjà prêté allégeance. Dis-nous maintenant sur quoi nous devons te prêter allégeance. » Il a dit : « Vous devez prêter allégeance à n’adorer qu’Allah sans rien Lui associer, à accomplir les cinq prières, à obéir (et il a dit quelque chose à voix basse) et à ne rien demander aux gens. » (À la suite de cela), j’ai vu que certains de ces hommes ne demandaient même pas à quelqu’un de ramasser leur fouet s’il tombait
