Sunan Ibn Majah, 2955

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said:“I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about the Hijr, and he said: ‘It is part of the House.’ I said: ‘What kept them from incorporating it into it?’ He said: ‘They ran out of funds.’ I said: ‘Why is its door so high up that it can only be reached with a ladder?’* He said: ‘That is what your people did so that they could let in whoever they wanted and keep out whoever they wanted. Were it not that your people have so recently left disbelief behind, and I am afraid that it would bother them, I would have changed it, incorporating what they left out and I would put its door at ground level.”

Rapporté par ‘Aishah : J’ai demandé au Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) à propos du Hijr, et il a dit : « Il fait partie de la Maison. » J’ai dit : « Pourquoi ne l’ont-ils pas intégré à la Kaaba ? » Il a répondu : « Ils n’avaient plus assez d’argent. » J’ai demandé : « Pourquoi la porte est-elle si haute qu’on ne peut l’atteindre qu’avec une échelle ? » Il a dit : « C’est ce que ton peuple a voulu, pour pouvoir laisser entrer qui ils voulaient et empêcher qui ils voulaient. Si ton peuple n’avait pas quitté la mécréance aussi récemment, et si je ne craignais pas que cela les dérange, j’aurais modifié la Kaaba, j’y aurais inclus ce qui a été laissé de côté et j’aurais mis la porte au niveau du sol. »
