Sunan Ibn Majah, 1734

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:“The Prophet (ﷺ) came to Al- Madinah, and he found the Jews observing a fast. He said: ‘What is this?’ They said: ‘This is the day when Allah saved Musa and drowned Pharaoh, so Musa fasted this day in gratitude.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘We have more right to Musa than you do.’ So he fasted (that day) and enjoined (others) to fast it also.’”

Rapporté par Ibn ‘Abbas : « Le Prophète (ﷺ) est arrivé à Médine et il a trouvé les Juifs en train de jeûner. Il a dit : ‘Qu’est-ce que c’est ?’ Ils ont répondu : ‘C’est le jour où Allah a sauvé Moussa et noyé Pharaon, alors Moussa a jeûné ce jour-là en remerciement.’ Le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a dit : ‘Nous avons plus de droits sur Moussa que vous.’ Il a donc jeûné ce jour-là et a ordonné aussi de le jeûner. »
