Sahih al-Bukhari, 819

Narrated Abu Qilaba:Once Malik bin Huwairith said to his friends, "Shall I show you how Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to offer his prayers?" And it was not the time for any of the compulsory congregational prayers. So he stood up (for the prayer) bowed and said the Takbir, then he raised his head and remained standing for a while and then prostrated and raised his head for a while (sat up for a while). He prayed like our Sheikh `Amr Ibn Salama. (Aiyub said, "The latter used to do a thing which I did not see the people doing i.e. he used to sit between the third and the fourth rak`a). Malik bin Huwairith said, "We came to the Prophet (after embracing Islam) and stayed with him. He said to us, 'When you go back to your families, pray such and such a prayer at such and such a time, pray such and such a prayer at such and such a time, and when there is the time for the prayer then only of you should pronounce the Adhan for the prayer and the oldest of you should lead the prayer

Rapporté par Abu Qilaba : Un jour, Malik bin Huwairith a dit à ses amis : « Voulez-vous que je vous montre comment le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) faisait la prière ? » Ce n’était pas l’heure d’une prière obligatoire en groupe. Il s’est alors levé pour prier, s’est incliné et a prononcé le Takbir, puis il a relevé la tête et est resté debout un moment, ensuite il s’est prosterné et s’est redressé un moment (il s’est assis un instant). Il priait comme notre cheikh `Amr Ibn Salama. (Aiyub a dit : « Ce dernier faisait une chose que je n’ai pas vue chez les autres, c’est-à-dire qu’il s’asseyait entre la troisième et la quatrième rak`a. ») Malik bin Huwairith a dit : « Nous sommes venus voir le Prophète (après notre conversion à l’islam) et nous sommes restés avec lui. Il nous a dit : ‘Quand vous retournerez auprès de vos familles, faites telle prière à tel moment, telle prière à tel moment, et quand l’heure de la prière arrive, que l’un d’entre vous fasse l’Adhan et que le plus âgé dirige la prière.’ »
