Sahih al-Bukhari, 7550

Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab:I heard Hisham bin Hakim reciting Surat-al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), I listened to his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had not taught me. I was about to jump over him while He was still in prayer, but I waited patiently and when he finished his prayer, I put my sheet round his neck (and pulled him) and said, "Who has taught you this Sura which I have heard you reciting?" Hisham said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) taught it to me." I said, "You are telling a lie, for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it!" Then I started leading (dragged) him to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said (to the Prophet), " I have heard this man reciting Surat-al- Furqan in a way that you have not taught me." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "(O `Umar) release him! Recite, O Hisham." Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It was revealed like this." Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Recite, O `Umar!" I recited in the way he had taught me, whereupon he said, "It was revealed like this," and added, "The Qur'an has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways, so recite of it whichever is easy for you ." Rapporté par `Umar bin Al-Khattab : J’ai entendu Hisham bin Hakim réciter la sourate Al-Furqan du vivant du Messager d’Allah (ﷺ). J’ai écouté sa récitation et j’ai remarqué qu’il la récitait d’une façon que le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) ne m’avait pas enseignée. J’ai failli me jeter sur lui alors qu’il priait, mais j’ai attendu patiemment. Quand il a terminé sa prière, j’ai mis mon manteau autour de son cou et je lui ai dit : « Qui t’a appris cette sourate que je t’ai entendu réciter ? » Hisham a répondu : « C’est le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) qui me l’a apprise. » J’ai dit : « Tu mens, car il me l’a enseignée d’une manière différente de la tienne ! » Ensuite, je l’ai emmené auprès du Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) et j’ai dit : « J’ai entendu cet homme réciter la sourate Al-Furqan d’une façon différente de celle que tu m’as enseignée. » Le Prophète (ﷺ) a dit : « Ô `Umar, lâche-le ! Récite, ô Hisham. » Hisham a récité comme je l’avais entendu. Le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a dit : « Elle a été révélée ainsi. » Puis il a dit : « Récite, ô `Umar ! » J’ai récité comme il me l’avait appris, et il a dit : « Elle a été révélée ainsi. » Il a ajouté : « Le Coran a été révélé pour être récité de sept façons différentes, alors récitez-le de la façon qui vous est la plus facile. »
