Sahih al-Bukhari, 5331

Narrated Al-Hasan:The sister of Ma'qil bin Yasar was married to a man and then that man divorced her and remained away from her till her period of the 'Iddah expired. Then he demanded for her hand in marriage, but Ma'qil got angry out of pride and haughtiness and said, "He kept away from her when he could still retain her, and now he demands her hand again?" So Ma'qil disagreed to remarry her to him. Then Allah revealed: 'When you have divorced women and they have fulfilled the term of their prescribed period, do not prevent them from marrying their (former) husbands.' (2.232) So the Prophet (ﷺ) sent for Ma'qil and recited to him (Allah's order) and consequently Ma'qil gave up his pride and haughtiness and yielded to Allah's order

Rapporté par Al-Hasan : La sœur de Ma'qil ibn Yasar était mariée à un homme, puis cet homme l’a divorcée et il est resté éloigné d’elle jusqu’à la fin de sa période de ‘Idda. Ensuite, il a demandé à l’épouser de nouveau, mais Ma'qil s’est mis en colère, par fierté et orgueil, et a dit : « Il s’est éloigné d’elle alors qu’il pouvait encore la garder, et maintenant il veut l’épouser à nouveau ? » Ma'qil a donc refusé de la lui redonner en mariage. Alors Allah a révélé : « Lorsque vous divorcez des femmes et qu’elles ont terminé leur délai, ne les empêchez pas d’épouser leurs anciens maris. » (2.232) Le Prophète (ﷺ) a donc envoyé chercher Ma'qil et lui a récité (l’ordre d’Allah), et Ma'qil a alors abandonné sa fierté et son orgueil, et il a accepté l’ordre d’Allah
