Sahih al-Bukhari, 3455

Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The Israelis used to be ruled and guided by prophets: Whenever a prophet died, another would take over his place. There will be no prophet after me, but there will be Caliphs who will increase in number." The people asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What do you order us (to do)?" He said, "Obey the one who will be given the pledge of allegiance first. Fulfil their (i.e. the Caliphs) rights, for Allah will ask them about (any shortcoming) in ruling those Allah has put under their guardianship

Rapporté par Abu Huraira : Le Prophète (ﷺ) a dit : « Les Israélites étaient dirigés et guidés par des prophètes : chaque fois qu’un prophète mourait, un autre le remplaçait. Il n’y aura pas de prophète après moi, mais il y aura des califes, et ils seront nombreux. » Les gens demandèrent : « Ô Envoyé d’Allah (ﷺ) ! Que nous ordonnes-tu de faire ? » Il répondit : « Obéissez à celui à qui l’on prêtera allégeance en premier. Remplissez leurs droits (c’est-à-dire ceux des califes), car Allah les interrogera sur toute négligence dans la gestion de ceux qu’Allah leur a confiés. »
