Sahih al-Bukhari, 3419

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-As:The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "I have been informed that you pray all the nights and observe fast all the days; is this true?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "If you do so, your eyes will become weak and you will get bored. So fast three days a month, for this will be the fasting of a whole year, or equal to the fasting of a whole year." I said, "I find myself able to fast more." He said, "Then fast like the fasting of (the Prophet) David who used to fast on alternate days and would not flee on facing the enemy

Rapporté par `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-As : Le Prophète (ﷺ) m’a dit : « On m’a informé que tu pries toutes les nuits et que tu jeûnes tous les jours ; est-ce vrai ? » J’ai répondu : « Oui. » Il a dit : « Si tu fais cela, tes yeux deviendront faibles et tu te lasseras. Jeûne trois jours par mois, cela équivaut à jeûner toute l’année, ou c’est comme jeûner toute l’année. » J’ai dit : « Je me sens capable de jeûner plus. » Il a dit : « Alors jeûne comme le faisait (le Prophète) David, qui jeûnait un jour sur deux et ne fuyait pas devant l’ennemi. »
