Sahih al-Bukhari, 3353

Narrated Abu Huraira:The people said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Who is the most honorable amongst the people (in Allah's Sight)?" He said, "The most righteous amongst them." They said, "We do not ask you, about this. " He said, "Then Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, The son of Allah's Prophet the son of Allah's Khalil (i.e. Abraham)." They said, "We do not want to ask about this," He said' "Then you want to ask about the descent of the Arabs. Those who were the best in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance will be the best in Islam provided they comprehend the religious knowledge

Rapporté par Abu Huraira : Les gens ont dit : « Ô Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) ! Qui est la personne la plus honorable aux yeux d’Allah ? » Il a répondu : « C’est la personne la plus pieuse parmi eux. » Ils ont dit : « Ce n’est pas de cela que nous voulons te parler. » Il a dit : « Alors, c’est Joseph, le Prophète d’Allah, fils du Prophète d’Allah, fils du Prophète d’Allah, fils du Khalil d’Allah (c’est-à-dire Abraham). » Ils ont dit : « Ce n’est pas cela que nous voulons demander. » Il a dit : « Alors, vous voulez parler de la lignée des Arabes. Ceux qui étaient les meilleurs à l’époque de l’ignorance seront aussi les meilleurs dans l’Islam, à condition qu’ils comprennent la religion. »
