Sahih al-Bukhari, 1406

Narrated Zaid bin Wahab:I passed by a place called Ar-Rabadha and by chance I met Abu Dhar and asked him, "What has brought you to this place?" He said, "I was in Sham and differed with Muawiya on the meaning of (the following verses of the Qur'an): 'They who hoard up gold and silver and spend them not in the way of Allah.' (9.34). Muawiya said, 'This verse is revealed regarding the people of the scriptures." I said, It was revealed regarding us and also the people of the scriptures." So we had a quarrel and Mu'awiya sent a complaint against me to `Uthman. `Uthman wrote to me to come to Medina, and I came to Medina. Many people came to me as if they had not seen me before. So I told this to `Uthman who said to me, "You may depart and live nearby if you wish." That was the reason for my being here for even if an Ethiopian had been nominated as my ruler, I would have obeyed him

Rapporté par Zaid bin Wahab : Je suis passé par un endroit appelé Ar-Rabadha et, par hasard, j’ai rencontré Abu Dhar et je lui ai demandé : « Qu’est-ce qui t’a amené ici ? » Il a dit : « J’étais au Sham et j’ai eu un désaccord avec Muawiya sur le sens des versets suivants du Coran : “Ceux qui thésaurisent l’or et l’argent et ne les dépensent pas dans la voie d’Allah.” (9:34). Muawiya a dit : ‘Ce verset concerne les gens du Livre.’ J’ai dit : ‘Il a été révélé à notre sujet et aussi à propos des gens du Livre.’ Nous nous sommes disputés et Muawiya a envoyé une plainte contre moi à `Uthman. `Uthman m’a écrit de venir à Médine, et je suis venu. Beaucoup de gens sont venus me voir comme s’ils ne m’avaient jamais vu auparavant. J’ai raconté cela à `Uthman qui m’a dit : “Tu peux partir et vivre dans les environs si tu le souhaites.” C’est la raison de ma présence ici, car même si un Éthiopien avait été nommé comme mon dirigeant, je lui aurais obéi. »
