Sunan Abi Dawud, 690

This tradition has also been reported by Abu Hurairah through a different chain of narrators. Abu Hurairah reported:The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ...... He then narrated the tradition about drawing the line. Sufyan said: We did not find anything by which we could reinforce this tradition, and this has been narrated only through this chain. He ('Ali b. al-Madini, a narrator) said: I said to Sufyan: There is a difference of opinion of the name (Abu Muhammad b. 'Amr). He pondered for a moment and then said: I do not remember except Abu Muhammad b. 'Amr Sufyan said: A man had come to Kufah after the death of Isma'il b. Umayyah ; he was seeking Abu Muhammad until he found him. He asked him (about this tradition) but he became confused. Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad b. Hanbal who was questioned many times how the line should be drawn. He replied: In this way. horizontally like crescent. Abu Dawud said: I heard Musaddad say: Ibn Dawud said: The line should be drawn perpendicularly. Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad b. Hanbal describing many times how the line should be drawn. He said: In this way horizontally in the round semi-circular form like the crescent, that is (the line should be) a curve

Cette tradition a aussi été rapportée par Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه par une autre chaîne. Abu Hurayrah a rapporté : Le Prophète ﷺ a dit : … Il a ensuite mentionné l’histoire de la ligne à tracer. Sufyan a dit : Nous n’avons rien trouvé qui confirme cette tradition, elle n’a été rapportée que par cette chaîne. ‘Ali b. al-Madini (un rapporteur) a dit : J’ai demandé à Sufyan : Il y a divergence sur le nom (Abu Muhammad b. ‘Amr). Il a réfléchi puis a dit : Je ne me souviens que de Abu Muhammad b. ‘Amr. Sufyan a dit : Un homme est venu à Kufa après la mort d’Isma’il b. Umayyah ; il cherchait Abu Muhammad jusqu’à ce qu’il le trouve. Il l’a interrogé (sur cette tradition) mais il s’est embrouillé. Abu Dawud a dit : J’ai entendu Ahmad b. Hanbal, qu’on a interrogé plusieurs fois sur la façon de tracer la ligne. Il a répondu : Comme ceci, horizontalement, en forme de croissant. Abu Dawud a dit : J’ai entendu Musaddad dire : Ibn Dawud a dit : La ligne doit être tracée verticalement. Abu Dawud a dit : J’ai entendu Ahmad b. Hanbal décrire plusieurs fois comment tracer la ligne. Il disait : Comme ceci, horizontalement, en demi-cercle, comme un croissant, c’est-à-dire une courbe
