Sunan Abi Dawud, 634

‘Ubadah b. al-Samit said:we came to Jabir b. ‘Abd Allah. He said : I (Jabir) accompanied the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in a battle. He got up to pray. I had a sheet of cloth upon me, and I began to cross both the ends, but they did not reach (my shoulders). It had fringes which I turned over and crossed the two ends, and bowed down retaining it with my neck lest it should fall down. Then I came and stood on the left side of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He then took and brought me around him and set me on his right side. Then Ibn Sakhr came and stood on his left side. he then took us with his both hands and made us stand behind him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to look at me furtive glances, but I could not understand. When I understood, he hinted at me tie the wrapper. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) finished the prayer, he said (to me): O Jabir. I said; Yes, Messenger of Allah. He said; if it (the sheet) is wide, cross both its ends (over the shoulders); if it is tight, tie it over your loins

Rapporté par ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit رضي الله عنه : Nous sommes allés voir Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah. Il a dit : « J’ai accompagné le Messager d’Allah ﷺ lors d’une bataille. Il s’est levé pour prier. Je portais un tissu sur moi et j’ai essayé d’en croiser les deux extrémités, mais elles n’atteignaient pas mes épaules. Il y avait des franges que j’ai rabattues et j’ai croisé les deux bouts, puis je me suis penché en avant en le maintenant avec mon cou pour qu’il ne tombe pas. Ensuite, je suis venu me placer à la gauche du Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Il m’a alors pris et m’a placé à sa droite. Puis Ibn Sakhr est venu se mettre à sa gauche. Il nous a alors pris tous les deux par la main et nous a fait nous placer derrière lui. Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ me lançait des regards, mais je ne comprenais pas. Quand j’ai compris, il m’a fait signe d’attacher le tissu. Quand le Messager d’Allah ﷺ a fini la prière, il m’a dit : “Ô Jabir.” J’ai répondu : “Oui, Messager d’Allah.” Il a dit : “Si le tissu est large, croise ses deux extrémités sur tes épaules ; s’il est étroit, attache-le autour de ta taille.” »
