Sunan Abi Dawud, 4380

Narrated AbuUmayyah al-Makhzumi: A thief who had accepted (having committed theft) was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ), but no good were found with him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said to him: I do not think you have stolen. He said: Yes, I have. He repeated it twice or thrice. So he gave orders. His hand was cut off and he was then brought to him. He said: Ask Allah's pardon and turn to Him in repentance. He said: I ask Allah's pardon and turn to Him in repentance. He (the Prophet) then said: O Allah, accept his repentance. Abu Dawud said: It has been transmitted by 'Amr b. Asim, from Hammam, from Ishaq b. 'Abd Allah from Abu Ummayyah, a man of the Ansar from the Prophet (ﷺ)

Rapporté par Abu Umayyah al-Makhzumi : Un voleur qui avait reconnu son vol fut amené devant le Prophète ﷺ, mais aucun bien n’a été retrouvé avec lui. Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ lui a dit : « Je ne pense pas que tu aies volé. » Il a répondu : « Si, j’ai volé. » Il l’a répété deux ou trois fois. Alors le Prophète ﷺ a ordonné qu’on lui coupe la main. Ensuite, il a été ramené devant lui. Le Prophète ﷺ lui a dit : « Demande pardon à Allah et repens-toi auprès de Lui. » Il a dit : « Je demande pardon à Allah et je me repens auprès de Lui. » Le Prophète ﷺ a alors dit : « Ô Allah, accepte son repentir. »
