Sunan Abi Dawud, 3646

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: I used to write everything which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I intended (by it) to memorise it. The Quraysh prohibited me saying: Do you write everything that you hear from him while the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is a human being: he speaks in anger and pleasure? So I stopped writing, and mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He signalled with his finger to him mouth and said: Write, by Him in Whose hand my soul lies, only right comes out from it

Rapporté par Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-‘As : J’écrivais tout ce que j’entendais du Messager d’Allah ﷺ, afin de le mémoriser. Les Quraysh m’ont interdit en disant : « Écris-tu tout ce que tu entends de lui alors que le Messager d’Allah ﷺ est un être humain : il parle dans la colère et dans la satisfaction ? » J’ai donc arrêté d’écrire, puis j’en ai parlé au Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Il a alors montré sa bouche du doigt et a dit : « Écris ! Par Celui qui détient mon âme dans Sa main, il n’en sort que la vérité. »
