Sunan Abi Dawud, 3606

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A man from Banu Sahm went out with Tamim ad-Dari and Adi ibn Badda'. The man of Banu Sahm died in the land where no Muslim was present. When they returned with his inheritance, they (the heirs) did not find a silver cup with lines of gold (in his property). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) administered on oath to them. The cup was then found (with someone) at Mecca. They said: We have bought it from Tamim and Adi. Then two men from the heirs of the man of Banu Sahm got up and swore saying: Our witness is more reliable than their witness. They said that the cup belonged to their man. He (Ibn Abbas) said: The following verse was revealed about them: "O ye who believe! when death approaches any of you

Rapporté par Abdullah ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه : Un homme de Banu Sahm est parti avec Tamim ad-Dari et Adi ibn Badda’. L’homme de Banu Sahm est décédé dans un endroit où il n’y avait aucun musulman. Quand ils sont revenus avec son héritage, les héritiers n’ont pas trouvé une coupe en argent ornée de lignes d’or parmi ses biens. Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ leur a fait prêter serment. La coupe a ensuite été retrouvée à La Mecque. On a dit : « Nous l’avons achetée à Tamim et Adi. » Deux hommes parmi les héritiers se sont alors levés et ont juré : « Notre témoignage est plus fiable que le leur. » Ils ont affirmé que la coupe appartenait à leur parent. Ibn Abbas a dit : « Le verset suivant a été révélé à leur sujet : “Ô vous qui croyez ! Lorsque la mort s’approche de l’un de vous…” »
