Sunan Abi Dawud, 3123

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: We buried a deceased person in the company of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). When we had finished, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) returned and we also returned with him. When he approached his door, he stopped, and we saw a woman coming towards him. He (the narrator) said: I think he recognized her. When she went away, we came to know that she was Fatimah. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to her: What brought you out of your house, Fatimah? She replied: I came to the people of this house, Messenger of Allah, and I showed pity and expressed my condolences to them for their deceased relation. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: You might have gone to the graveyard with them. She replied: I seek refuge in Allah! I heard you referring to what you mentioned. He said: If you had gone to the graveyard...He then mentioned severe words about it. I then asked Rabi'ah (a narrator of this tradition) about al-kuda (stony land). He replied: I think it means the graves

Rapporté par Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-‘As رضي الله عنه : Nous avons enterré un défunt en compagnie du Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Quand nous eûmes terminé, le Messager d’Allah ﷺ est reparti et nous sommes repartis avec lui. Lorsqu’il arriva près de sa porte, il s’arrêta, et nous avons vu une femme venir vers lui. (Le rapporteur) a dit : Je pense qu’il l’a reconnue. Quand elle s’en alla, nous avons appris qu’il s’agissait de Fatimah. Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ lui dit : « Qu’est-ce qui t’a fait sortir de ta maison, Fatimah ? » Elle répondit : « Je suis venue voir les gens de cette maison, Messager d’Allah, et j’ai eu de la compassion et j’ai présenté mes condoléances pour leur défunt. » Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ dit : « Tu aurais pu aller au cimetière avec eux. » Elle répondit : « Je cherche refuge auprès d’Allah ! J’ai entendu ce dont tu as parlé. » Il dit : « Si tu étais allée au cimetière… » Il a alors prononcé des paroles sévères à ce sujet. J’ai ensuite demandé à Rabi'ah (un rapporteur de ce récit) ce que signifiait « al-kuda » (terre pierreuse). Il répondit : « Je pense que cela désigne les tombes. »
