Sunan Abi Dawud, 241

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: Jumay' ibn Umayr, one of the sons of Banu Taym Allah ibn Tha'labah, said: Accompanied by my mother and aunt I entered upon Aisha. One of them asked her: How did you do while taking a bath? Aisha replied: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed ablution (in the beginning) as he did for prayer. He then poured (water) upon his head three times. But we poured water upon our heads five times due to plaits

Rapporté par Aishah (la mère des croyants) رضي الله عنها : Jumay’ ibn Umayr, un des fils de Banu Taym Allah ibn Tha’labah, a dit : J’ai rendu visite à Aishah avec ma mère et ma tante. L’une d’elles lui a demandé : « Comment faisais-tu pour prendre un bain rituel ? » Aishah a répondu : « Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ faisait d’abord les ablutions comme pour la prière. Puis il versait de l’eau sur sa tête trois fois. Mais nous, à cause de nos tresses, nous versions de l’eau sur nos têtes cinq fois. »
