Sunan Abi Dawud, 1329

Narrated AbuQatadah: The Prophet (ﷺ) went out at night and found AbuBakr praying in a low voice, and he passed Umar ibn al-Khattab who was raising his voice while praying. When they both met the Prophet (ﷺ) together, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: I passed by you, AbuBakr, when you were praying in a low voice. He replied: I made Him hear with Whom I was holding intimate converse, Messenger of Allah. He (the Prophet) said to Umar: I passed by you when you were praying in a loud voice. He replied: Messenger of Allah, I was awakening the drowsy and driving away the Devil. Al-Hasan added in his version: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Raise your voice a little, AbuBakr, and he said to Umar: Lower your voice a little

Rapporté par Abu Qatadah رضي الله عنه : Le Prophète ﷺ sortit une nuit et trouva Abu Bakr en train de prier à voix basse. Il passa aussi devant Omar ibn al-Khattab qui priait à voix haute. Quand ils rencontrèrent tous deux le Prophète ﷺ, il dit : « Je suis passé près de toi, Abu Bakr, alors que tu priais à voix basse. » Il répondit : « J’ai fait entendre ma voix à Celui avec qui j’étais en conversation intime, Messager d’Allah. » Le Prophète ﷺ dit à Omar : « Je suis passé près de toi alors que tu priais à voix haute. » Il répondit : « Messager d’Allah, je voulais réveiller l’assoupi et chasser le Diable. » Al-Hasan a ajouté dans sa version : Le Prophète ﷺ a dit : « Lève un peu la voix, Abu Bakr », et il dit à Omar : « Baisse un peu la voix. »
