Sunan Abi Dawud, 1008

Abu Hurairah said:The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in one of the evening (‘Asha) prayers, noon or afternoon. He led us in two Rak’ahs and gave the salutation. He then got up going towards a piece of wood which was placed in the front part of the mosque. He placed his hands upon it, one on the other, looking from his face as if he were angry. The people came out hastily saying: the prayer has been shortened. Abu Bakr and ‘Umar were among the people, but they were too afraid to speak to him. A man whom the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would call “ the possessor of arms” (Dhu al-Yadain) stood up (asking him): Have you forgotten. The Messenger of Allah, or has the prayer been shortened? He said: I have neither forgotten nor has it been shortened. He said : Messenger of Allah , you have forgotten. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned towards the people and asked : did the possessor of arms speak the truth? They made a sign , that is, yes. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) returned to his place and prayed the remaining two Rak’ahs, then gave the salutation; he then uttered the takbir and prostrated himself as usual or prolonged. He then raised his head and uttered the takbir; then he uttered the takbir and made prostration as usual or made longer (prostration). Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه a dit : Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ nous a dirigés dans l’une des prières du soir (‘Isha), du midi ou de l’après-midi. Il a accompli deux rak‘as puis a salué. Il s’est ensuite levé et s’est dirigé vers un morceau de bois placé à l’avant de la mosquée. Il a posé ses mains dessus, l’une sur l’autre, et son visage semblait exprimer de la colère. Les gens sont sortis précipitamment en disant : « La prière a été raccourcie. » Abu Bakr et Omar étaient parmi eux, mais ils avaient trop peur pour lui parler. Un homme que le Messager d’Allah ﷺ appelait “le possesseur de bras” (Dhu al-Yadain) s’est levé et a demandé : « As-tu oublié, Messager d’Allah, ou la prière a-t-elle été raccourcie ? » Il a répondu : « Je n’ai ni oublié ni raccourci la prière. » Il a dit : « Messager d’Allah, tu as oublié. » Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ s’est tourné vers les gens et a demandé : « Le possesseur de bras a-t-il dit vrai ? » Ils ont fait un signe de tête, c’est-à-dire oui. Le Messager d’Allah ﷺ est alors revenu à sa place et a accompli les deux rak‘as restantes, puis a salué. Ensuite, il a prononcé le takbir et s’est prosterné comme d’habitude ou plus longuement. Le rapporteur Muhammad a été interrogé : « A-t-il salué (pendant la prosternation) à cause de l’oubli ? » Il a répondu : « Je ne me souviens pas qu’Abu Hurairah l’ait mentionné. Mais nous sommes sûrs qu’Imran b. Husain (dans sa version) a dit : il a ensuite salué. »
