Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Safwan ibn Abdullah ibn Safwan that it was said to Safwan ibn Umayya, "Whoever does not do hijra is ruined." So Safwan ibn Umayya went to Madina and slept in the mosque with his cloak as a pillow. A thief came and took his cloak and Safwan grabbed hold of the thief and brought him to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, "Did you steal this cloak?" He said, "Yes." So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered that his hand be cut off. Safwan said to him, "I did not intend this. It is his as sadaqa." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Why didn't you do it before bringing him to me?

Safwan Ibn Abdallah Ibn Safwan a rapporté qu'on a dit à Safwan Ibn Oumayya: «Celui qui n'a pas fait l'hégire est en peine». Ainsi Safwan Ibn Omayya vint à Médine, et s'étendit dans la mosquée en posant sa tête sur son vêtement. Un voleur arriva et, et lui prit son vêtement, il fut arrêté par Safwan qui l'amena chez l'Envoyé d'Allah r (salallahou alayhi wa salam) Sur lui la grâce et la paix d'Allah qui lui demanda: «As-tu volé le vêtement de cet homme»? Il lui répondit d'un oui, l'Envoyé d'Allah r (salallahou alayhi wa salam) (Sur lui la grâce et la paix d'Allah) ordonna de lui couper la main. Alors Safwan dit à l'Envoyé d'Allah r (salallahou alayhi wa salam) (Sur lui la grâce et la paix d'Allah): «Je ne voulais pas que l'affaire soit telle; ce vêtement lui est une aumône». L'Envoyé d'Allah r (salallahou alayhi wa salam) (Sur lui la grâce et la paix d'Allah) répondit: «Pourquoi tu ne-t'es pas décidé de le faire, avant que tu ne te présentes chez moi»?
