Narrated Anas:`Abdullah bin Salam heard the news of the arrival of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (at Medina) while he was on a farm collecting its fruits. So he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I will ask you about three things which nobody knows unless he be a prophet. Firstly, what is the first portent of the Hour? What is the first meal of the people of Paradise? And what makes a baby look like its father or mother?'. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Just now Gabriel has informed me about that." `Abdullah said, "Gabriel?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Yes." `Abdullah said, "He, among the angels is the enemy of the Jews." On that the Prophet (ﷺ) recited this Holy Verse:-- "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel (let him die in his fury!) for he has brought it (i.e. Qur'an) down to your heart by Allah's permission." (2.97) Then he added, "As for the first portent of the Hour, it will be a fire that will collect the people from the East to West. And as for the first meal of the people of Paradise, it will be the caudate (i.e. extra) lobe of the fish liver. And if a man's discharge preceded that of the woman, then the child resembles the father, and if the woman's discharge preceded that of the man, then the child resembles the mother." On hearing that, `Abdullah said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah. O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ); the Jews are liars, and if they should come to know that I have embraced Islam, they would accuse me of being a liar." In the meantime some Jews came (to the Prophet) and he asked them, "What is `Abdullah's status amongst you?" They replied, "He is the best amongst us, and he is our chief and the son of our chief." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What would you think if `Abdullah bin Salam embraced Islam?" They replied, "May Allah protect him from this!" Then `Abdullah came out and said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The Jews then said, "Abdullah is the worst of us and the son of the worst of us," and disparaged him. On that `Abdullah said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! This is what I was afraid of

Rapporté par Anas : `Abdullah bin Salam a entendu la nouvelle de l’arrivée du Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) à Médine alors qu’il était dans une ferme en train de récolter ses fruits. Il est donc venu voir le Prophète (ﷺ) et lui a dit : « Je vais te poser trois questions que seul un prophète peut connaître. Premièrement, quel est le premier signe de l’Heure ? Quel sera le premier repas des gens du Paradis ? Et qu’est-ce qui fait qu’un bébé ressemble à son père ou à sa mère ? » Le Prophète (ﷺ) a dit : « Gabriel vient tout juste de m’en informer. » `Abdullah a dit : « Gabriel ? » Le Prophète (ﷺ) a répondu : « Oui. » `Abdullah a dit : « Parmi les anges, il est l’ennemi des Juifs. » Le Prophète (ﷺ) a alors récité ce verset : « Quiconque est ennemi de Gabriel (qu’il meure dans sa colère !), car c’est lui qui l’a fait descendre (c’est-à-dire le Coran) sur ton cœur avec la permission d’Allah. » (2.97) Puis il a ajouté : « Le premier signe de l’Heure sera un feu qui rassemblera les gens de l’Est à l’Ouest. Le premier repas des gens du Paradis sera le lobe supplémentaire du foie du poisson. Et si la semence de l’homme précède celle de la femme, l’enfant ressemblera à son père, et si celle de la femme précède celle de l’homme, l’enfant ressemblera à sa mère. » En entendant cela, `Abdullah a dit : « J’atteste qu’il n’y a de divinité qu’Allah et que tu es le Messager d’Allah, ô Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) ; les Juifs sont des menteurs, et s’ils apprennent que je me suis converti à l’islam, ils diront que je mens. » Entre-temps, des Juifs sont venus (voir le Prophète) et il leur a demandé : « Quel est le statut de `Abdullah parmi vous ? » Ils ont répondu : « C’est le meilleur d’entre nous, notre chef et le fils de notre chef. » Le Prophète (ﷺ) a dit : « Que penseriez-vous si `Abdullah bin Salam embrassait l’islam ? » Ils ont répondu : « Qu’Allah le protège de cela ! » Puis `Abdullah est sorti et a dit : « J’atteste qu’il n’y a de divinité qu’Allah et que Muhammad est le Messager d’Allah. » Les Juifs ont alors dit : « `Abdullah est le pire d’entre nous et le fils du pire d’entre nous », et l’ont rabaissé. `Abdullah a dit : « Ô Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) ! C’est ce que je redoutais. »
