Narrated Qais bin Ubad:While I was sitting in the Mosque of Medina, there entered a man (Abdullah bin Salam) with signs of solemnity over his face. The people said, "He is one of the people of Paradise." He prayed two light rak`at and then left. I followed him and said, "When you entered the Mosque, the people said, 'He is one of the people of Paradise.' " He said, "By Allah, one ought not say what he does not know; and I will tell you why. In the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) I had a dream which I narrated to him. I saw as if I were in a garden." He then described its extension and greenery. He added: In its center there was an iron pillar whose lower end was fixed in the earth and the upper end was in the sky, and at its upper end there was a (ring-shaped) hand-hold. I was told to climb it. I said, "I can't." "Then a servant came to me and lifted my clothes from behind and I climbed till I reached the top (of the pillar). Then I got hold of the hand-hold, and I was told to hold it tightly, then I woke up and (the effect of) the handhold was in my hand. I narrated all that to the Prophet (ﷺ) who said, 'The garden is Islam, and the handhold is the Most Truth-worthy Hand-Hold. So you will remain as a Muslim till you die." The narrator added: "The man was `Abdullah bin Salam

Rapporté par Qais bin Ubad : Alors que j’étais assis dans la mosquée de Médine, un homme (Abdullah bin Salam) est entré avec des signes de piété sur son visage. Les gens ont dit : « C’est un des gens du Paradis. » Il a prié deux courtes rak‘at puis il est parti. Je l’ai suivi et lui ai dit : « Quand tu es entré dans la mosquée, les gens ont dit : “C’est un des gens du Paradis.” » Il a répondu : « Par Allah, on ne doit pas dire ce qu’on ne sait pas ; je vais t’expliquer pourquoi. Du vivant du Prophète (ﷺ), j’ai fait un rêve que je lui ai raconté. J’ai vu comme si j’étais dans un jardin. » Il a ensuite décrit sa taille et sa verdure. Il a ajouté : « Au centre, il y avait une colonne de fer dont la base était fixée dans la terre et le sommet dans le ciel, et tout en haut, il y avait une poignée en forme d’anneau. On m’a dit de grimper. J’ai dit : “Je ne peux pas.” Alors un serviteur est venu, a soulevé mes vêtements par derrière et j’ai grimpé jusqu’en haut de la colonne. J’ai saisi la poignée et on m’a dit de la tenir fermement. Puis je me suis réveillé et j’avais encore la sensation de la poignée dans la main. J’ai raconté tout cela au Prophète (ﷺ) qui a dit : “Le jardin, c’est l’Islam, et la poignée, c’est la Poignée la plus sûre. Tu resteras musulman jusqu’à ta mort.” » Le narrateur a ajouté : « Cet homme était ‘Abdullah bin Salam. »
