سنن أبي داود 3141

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: By Allah, we did not know whether we should take off the clothes of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as we took off the clothes of our dead, or wash him while his clothes were on him. When they (the people) differed among themselves, Allah cast slumber over them until every one of them had put his chin on his chest. Then a speaker spoke from a side of the house, and they did not know who he was: Wash the Prophet (ﷺ) while his clothes are on him. So they stood round the Prophet (ﷺ) and washed him while he had his shirt on him. They poured water on his shirt, and rubbed him with his shirt and not with their hands. Aisha used to say: If I had known beforehand about my affair what I found out later, none would have washed him except his wives

Rapporté par Aisha, la mère des croyants رضي الله عنها : Par Allah, nous ne savions pas si nous devions enlever les vêtements du Messager d’Allah ﷺ comme nous le faisions pour nos morts, ou le laver avec ses vêtements sur lui. Quand les gens ont eu des avis différents, Allah a fait qu’ils s’assoupissent tous, chacun posant son menton sur sa poitrine. Alors, une voix a parlé d’un côté de la maison, sans que nous sachions qui c’était : « Lavez le Prophète ﷺ avec ses vêtements sur lui. » Alors ils se sont rassemblés autour du Prophète ﷺ et l’ont lavé alors qu’il portait sa tunique. Ils versaient de l’eau sur sa tunique et le frottaient avec le tissu, sans toucher son corps. Aisha disait : « Si j’avais su à l’avance ce que j’ai appris plus tard, personne ne l’aurait lavé à part ses épouses. »
