Ibn A’bud said, ‘Ali said to me “May I not narrate you about me and Fathimah daughter of the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ)? She was most favorite to him of his family.” I said “Yes”. He said “She pulled the grinding stone with her hand so much that it affected her hand, she carried water in a water bag so much so that it affected the upper portion of her chest, she swept the house so much so that her clothes became dirty. The Prophet (ﷺ) acquired some slaves”. So I said “Would that you go to your father and ask him for a slave. She then came to him and found some people with him talking to him. She therefore returned. Next day she came again. He asked (her), what was your need? But she kept silence. So I said, I inform you, Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ). She pulled grinding stone so much that it affected her hand, she carried water bag so much so that it affected the upper portion of her chest. When the slaves were brought to you I asked her to come to you and to ask you for a slave to save her from the exertion she is suffering.” He said “Fear Allaah, Fathimah and perform the duty of your Lord and do the work of your family.” When you go to bed say “Glory be to Allaah” thirty three times, “Praise be to Allaah” thirty three times, “Allaah is Most Great” thirty four times. This is hundred times. That will be better for you than a servant. She said “I am pleased with Allaah, Most High and with his Apostle (ﷺ).”

Rapporté par Ibn A’bud رضي الله عنه : ‘Ali رضي الله عنه m’a dit : « Veux-tu que je te raconte ce qui s’est passé entre moi et Fatimah, la fille du Messager d’Allah ﷺ ? C’était la plus chère à son cœur parmi sa famille. » J’ai répondu : « Oui. » Il dit : « Elle a tellement tourné la meule à la main que cela lui a abîmé la main, elle a tellement porté d’eau que cela a marqué le haut de sa poitrine, elle a tellement balayé la maison que ses vêtements étaient sales. Le Prophète ﷺ a acquis des esclaves. J’ai alors dit : “Si seulement tu allais voir ton père pour lui demander un serviteur.” Elle s’est donc rendue chez lui, mais elle a trouvé des gens en train de lui parler, alors elle est repartie. Le lendemain, elle y est retournée. Il lui demanda : “Quel est ton besoin ?” Mais elle garda le silence. J’ai alors dit : “Je vais t’expliquer, ô Messager d’Allah ﷺ. Elle a tellement tourné la meule que cela lui a abîmé la main, elle a tellement porté d’eau que cela a marqué sa poitrine. Quand tu as eu des esclaves, je lui ai conseillé de venir te demander un serviteur pour l’aider dans ses tâches.” Il répondit : “Crains Allah, Fatimah, accomplis ton devoir envers ton Seigneur et fais le travail de ta famille. Quand vous allez au lit, dites : ‘Gloire à Allah’ trente-trois fois, ‘Louange à Allah’ trente-trois fois, ‘Allah est le Plus Grand’ trente-quatre fois. Cela fait cent fois. Ce sera meilleur pour toi qu’un serviteur.” Elle dit : “Je suis satisfaite d’Allah, le Très-Haut, et de Son Messager ﷺ.” »
