‘Urwa bin Al Zubair said I said to A’ishah, wife of the Prophet(ﷺ) while I was a boy. What do you think about the pronouncement of Allaah, the Exalted “Lo! (The Mountains) Al Safa’ and Al Marwah are among the indications of Allaah. “I think there is no harm for anyone if he does not run between them. A’ishah(may Allah be pleased with her) said Nay, had it been so as you said, it would have been thus. It is no sin on him not to go around them. This verse was revealed about the Ansaar, they used to perform hajj for Manat. Manat was erected in front of Qudaid. Hence they used to avoid going around Al Safa and Al Marwah. When Islam came, they asked the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) about it. Allaah, the Exalted therefore revealed the verse “Lo! (The Mountains) Al Safa’ and Al Marwah are among the indications of Allaah

Rapporté par ‘Urwa bin Al Zubair : J’ai dit à Aïsha رضي الله عنها, l’épouse du Prophète ﷺ, alors que j’étais un jeune garçon : « Que penses-tu de ce qu’Allah, le Très-Haut, a révélé : “Al-Safa et Al-Marwah font partie des signes d’Allah” ? Je pense qu’il n’y a pas de mal pour quelqu’un s’il ne fait pas le va-et-vient entre eux. » Aïsha رضي الله عنها répondit : « Non, si c’était comme tu dis, cela aurait été formulé ainsi : “Il n’y a pas de péché à ne pas aller entre eux.” Ce verset a été révélé à propos des Ansar : ils faisaient le hajj pour Manat, qui était dressée devant Qudaid, alors ils évitaient de passer par Al-Safa et Al-Marwah. Quand l’islam est venu, ils ont interrogé le Messager d’Allah ﷺ à ce sujet, alors Allah, le Très-Haut, a révélé ce verset : “Al-Safa et Al-Marwah font partie des signes d’Allah.” »
